Medicine is not merely about treating illness; it is about caring for people. I strive to combine the science of medicine with the art of compassion, ensuring that every patient receives care that is personal, thoughtful, and grounded in trust.
What first drew me to Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine was the unique combination of intellectual challenge, clinical complexity, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives. I have always been fascinated by the intricate physiology of the respiratory system and the vital role it plays in sustaining life.
Critical care, in particular, offers the privilege of caring for patients during their most vulnerable moments, when thoughtful decisions, timely interventions, and compassionate care can profoundly influence outcomes.
Over the years, what began as a fascination with the science of medicine has evolved into a deep appreciation for the human connection, trust, and responsibility that come with caring for those who place their lives in our hands!

Breathing is something we often take for granted until it becomes a struggle.
Read Dr. Devasahayam's perspective →Breathing is something we often take for granted until it becomes a struggle. One thing I wish more people understood is that serious lung conditions, including lung cancer and COPD, can develop silently or with subtle symptoms that are easily overlooked.
A persistent cough, unexplained shortness of breath, or a change in breathing should never be dismissed as simply a part of aging. Lung cancer, in particular, can develop without noticeable symptoms, making early detection critically important.
Low-dose CT screening can detect lung cancer at an earlier, more treatable stage in individuals who meet screening criteria, potentially saving lives. I firmly believe that awareness, prevention, appropriate screening, and timely intervention are the cornerstones of preserving lung health and improving quality of life.
